A Foreign Language
Ally is in 3rd grade. He comes early with his sister and mom, so he usually spends the hour before school playing DJ in my classroom. Our students' families were asked to fill out a form concerning a survey that will take place this summer. The instructions and explanation were written in Creole. Ally asked about the form and I said, "Read it."
He said, "I don't speak a foreign language."
I replied, "Ally, it's in Creole."
"But, I don't know it."
So I read it to him and he said, "Oh, Creole. I speak that."
(Creole is the language spoken here!)
