The Origin of a Word

The Creole word for the thing you hold in your hand which shines a light on your path or behind boxes in your garage is "flash."

The other day my students were asked to identify the English word in their phonics book. Only one student knew it: flashlight. My other students started laughing. Then they began saying that English stole the Creole word "flash" and then added it to the word "light". They thought it was hysterical.

We're such thieves!
